Welcome!
Real karate. Real instructors. Real results.
Edmonton's longest-running Kyokushin Karate Dojo. Programs for kids 4+, teens, and adults — taught by 5th-degree black belt Shihan Irek Slobodzian and a senior instructor team. Your first class is free. No contracts. Ever.
Forty-three years of teaching, on one mat.
Edmonton Kyokushin Karate Club isn't a franchise. We're a non-profit dojo founded in 1983 and led by Shihan Irek Slobodzian, 5th Dan — who has personally trained generations of Edmonton families.
Kyokushin means "the ultimate truth." It's the most demanding style of karate in the world — and the most rewarding. Our students leave each class stronger, calmer, and a little more sure of themselves than when they walked in.
Whether you're enrolling a four-year-old, restarting after twenty years off, or stepping onto a mat for the first time as an adult — there is a place for you here.

The most demanding karate. The most prepared students.
Kyokushin was built for one purpose: to produce real fighters with real character. Forty-three years later, that's still what we do.
Full-contact tradition
Kyokushin is the original full-contact karate. Students learn to take a hit and keep moving — calmly, with control. It's the difference between thinking you can defend yourself and knowing you can.
Structured curriculum
Two parallel paths — the Children's Syllabus for under-tens, and the Adult KYU system for ages ten and up. Every belt has a clear set of techniques, kata, and fitness standards. No guessing what's next.
Senior instructors
You won't be handed off to a teenager. Classes are taught by Shihan Irek (5th Dan) and senior students with decades on the mat between them. Quality is the reason we've lasted 43 years.
Three steps. No commitment.
Walking into a new dojo can feel intimidating. We've made it as simple as we can.

"My son has been at EKKC for three years. He's stronger, more focused, and genuinely happier. Shihan and the senior instructors care about every kid on that mat — you can see it in everything they do."
